Our experience with material handling devices goes beyond the end effector. We have designed many devices for holding and moving parts from one place to another. Sometimes it’s as simple as cart for the operator to push from place to place. Others are more complex, attached as hydraulic accessories to forklifts, to move, rotate, or otherwise manipulating parts along the way.
Designing material handling devices is very similar to designing an end effector with some subtle differences. The design process starts with knowing the parts to be moved, the pick-up orientation and the place orientation. Once the two end positions are defined, the rest of the design fills in the gaps, providing the necessary movements along the way.In general terms the center of gravity changes from one place to another and the overall weight of the design are less of a lesser concern.
